The Spiritual Side of Healing Trauma Through Movement

God didn’t give you a body separate from your spirit. They are deeply connected. What you carry emotionally can affect your physical body. And what you do physically can impact your soul.
1. Movement Breaks the Spirit of Fear
When trauma makes you feel small, powerless, or unsafe, exercise becomes a spiritual act of reclaiming dominion over your body and your story.
2. Movement Is a Form of Worship
Moving your body with intention can honor God:
- thanking Him for strength
- releasing what was hurting you
- stepping into the woman He’s shaping you to be
3. Movement Builds Discipline, Which Strengthens Faith
When you show up for your body, you also train your spirit to endure, persist, and hope again.
4. Movement Creates Space for Prayer & Reflection
Walks, runs, stretching sessions, or workouts often become unexpected places where God speaks and heals.
5. Movement Helps You Feel Present — Not Stuck in the Past
Trauma keeps you reliving old pain. Movement grounds you in the now.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Exercise helps restore that sound mind.
