Practical Ways I Clung to Jesus 🕊️
Faith isn’t just an idea, it’s a practice. Here are a few ways I found strength in Jesus:
👉Morning prayer before anything else
Even if it’s just five minutes before the kiddos wake up, I pray for God’s covering over my family.
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” Psalm 5:3
👉Worship in the middle of chores
I love to turn on worship music while folding laundry or cooking dinner. Praising God in the middle of my mess lifts my spirit.
👉Declaring God’s Word out loud
Whenever fear creeps in, I speak Scripture:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
👉Writing down gratitude
Trauma often trains the brain to focus on fear. I fight back by writing down one thing that I’m thankful for each night.
These small steps shift my heart from despair to hope.
Parenting With Jesus at the Center 👩👧👦
My children were also carrying their own version of the trauma. My oldest child had seen and heard things that no child should. As a mom, I longed to shield them from the pain, but I realized I couldn’t erase their memories. But what I could do was point them to Jesus. The true healer.
We started small: praying together at bedtime, memorizing one Bible verse a week, and speaking blessings over each other. Over time, my children began to see that while our family was “different,” we were also deeply loved by God.
“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
Parenting as a single mom is hard. Parenting after trauma feels nearly impossible. But with Jesus at the center, I’m never parenting alone.
